Ever lost your child in a crowd?

 Have you ever, even for a split second, not know where your child was? Perhaps it was at a mall or at the playground. The thought of losing a child to a crowd and perhaps never seeing them again is too horrifying to imagine for most people. 

However, this is what so many Muslim parents go through every single day when their children deny their deen.

I remember the first time I lost my daughter in the crowds of Madina. It is like they portray it in the movies. Time stopped, and my heart fell to the pit of my stomach. Had I lost my daughter forever? And it was then – when I spotted her crying inside the security room – that my heart made its way back up from my stomach to its cavity within my chest.

How can we look forward to our future when we witness our children not practicing the Deen?

Words can never describe what it feels like if a child goes missing. A mother goes crazy and would do anything to get her child back. She can’t breathe, she can’t sleep, she can’t eat until she knows her baby is safely back in her arms.

Thankfully, my little girl was safely returned to her mother – but some people, sadly, can experience this feeling…without their child going missing like mine if they lose them spiritually.

If a child or teen completely loses interest in Islam, it can feel like losing your child forever. How can we look forward to our future when we witness our children not practicing the Deen? 

Why me?

I’ve spent years working with parents and young Muslims from all walks of life. I’ve also interviewed my fair share of Masjid youth directors. This is how I found the gap in how most Muslim children are being raised and – more importantly – how we can prevent them from veering off the path of the Deen. We only get one chance to raise them right, so let’s do it together through this 30-day video course for Muslim parents just like you. Deep look into Seerah

It all begins with looking at how the Prophet (peace be upon him) always wanted us to be. If we look at our priorities as Muslims today, we have lost touch with how things should be. We need to treat our children the way the Prophet treated new Muslims. He showed empathy during the most critical time in their lives: When they are learning and familiarizing themselves with the Deen.

For the first ten years, our Prophet (PBUH) focused on instilling the oneness of the Creator and the purpose of our life, the hereafter – Jannah, and Jahannam. He wanted to help the new Muslims connect to Allah, the Hereafter, and develop a rational and logical understanding of the deen.

The Prophet overlooked his people’s shortcomings to help them grow stronger and to lay the right foundations for a lifetime of faith. Sadly, today’s children see Islam as an endless list of things to-do. We can’t expect our children to build skyscrapers when the foundation isn’t strong enough to build a one-story shack.

Left unguided, our children will wander off in the wrong direction like sheep. But with the right guidance, we can lead them to do as they should be in the eyes of Allah.
